AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2024
In January 2024, I was lucky enough to spend 3 nights in Melbourne for the Women’s & Men’s Finals! It was one cracking experience, full of laughs and a fair few Aperol’s Spritz… I’ve written this blog to summarise my experience, the things I loved and the things I missed out on, and have given some top tips if you’re thinking about attending Australian Open 2025!

Atmosphere at the Australian Open:
The moment you step foot into Melbourne Park during the finals period, you’ll notice the electric atmosphere. With the lively, excited crowds cheering on their favorite players. I was lucky enough to venture around the grounds on the Friday, whilst Djokovic and Sinner played in their Semi Final – and the sight of Serbian and Italian flags waving proudly adds to the colorful spectacle. There was a fantastic mix of people in the grounds, from families with young children to groups of mates enjoying a bev in the sun. Once you step foot into the Rod Laver Arena, you’re taken back by the roaring crowds and the sense of anticipation. I sat in the Upper Baseline, and thought the seats were fantastic. Especially for those seeking a prime view of the court without breaking the bank. Not only does it offer a fantastic view of the action, but it also comes at a competitive price point. While some sections may be in sunlight during day sessions, the same areas provide breathtaking sunset views during night sessions, adding an extra layer of magic to the experience. Nothing a bit of planning can not prevent!
Food and Beverage Options:
When it comes to satisfying your hunger and quenching your thirst, Melbourne Park has everything. With an array of restaurants and bars in the precinct, there’s something to suit every palate. Personally, I couldn’t get enough of the Terrazza Aperol, which exuded fantastic summer vibes and served up flowing Aperol – one of my favorites! And with approximately 24 bars open to the public, you’re spoiled for choice when it comes to finding the perfect spot to unwind and soak in the atmosphere. Interested in seeing 2024’s map? Australian Open Finals Festival:
For those looking to add a music to their Australian Open experience, the Australian Open Finals Festival is not to be missed. Held in the John Cain arena, this festival offers a lineup of both Australian and international music acts, providing the perfect accompaniment to the thrilling tennis matches. With a variety of seating and standing options available, you can enjoy the music up close or from a comfortable distance, all while basking in the electrifying atmosphere. This year headliners included DMA’s, Groove Armada and Rudimental!
Accommodation Options:
Convenience is key when it comes to accommodation during the Australian Open, and Melbourne doesn’t disappoint. With plenty of options within walking distance of Melbourne Park, getting to and from the tournament is simple. I opted for a stay at the Stamford Plaza, where the King Suite accommodations offered great value for money. Despite its convenient location, and large rooms – it was a little outdated, and therefore this year have opted to use the Rendezvous & Novotel on Collins, and Adina Apartments for our 2025 packages! Of course, if you’re looking for a more luxurious experience, premium options like the Westin, Crown, or QT are also available, ensuring you have a comfortable and convenient home base during your stay.
Exploring Melbourne:
While the Australian Open may take center stage, Melbourne offers plenty of opportunities for exploration beyond the tennis courts. Take some time to wander through the diverse suburbs of Richmond, Collingwood, and Fitzroy, each offering its own unique charm and attractions. From touring the historic MCG to perusing the masterpieces at the National Gallery to sampling the delights of the Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne has something to captivate every visitor.
Missed Opportunities and Recommendations:
As much as I enjoyed my time at the Australian Open, there were inevitably some missed opportunities. One such regret was not exploring Lygon Street in Carlton, affectionately known as Melbourne’s Little Italy. However, I did manage to indulge in Melbourne’s renowned coffee scene, with a visit to Market Lane in Brunswick leaving a lasting impression with its exceptional brews.
