2012 Spring Racing Carnival

The Emirates Melbourne Cup is more than just a horse race - it's a social and cultural tradition that literally brings Australia to a standstill. In it's 152nd year, the race draws competitors from all over the world with the annual invasion of northern hemisphere-trained stayers making it a truly international event. The Emirates Melbourne Cup now attracts a worldwide television audience of around 700 million people in 120 countries and territories while millions more either view or listen to the event via the internet.

The Cup is the linchpin of the Victoria Racing Club's annual four-day Cup Carnival and the highlight of Victoria's statewide Spring Racing Carnival. In 2011, the Victoria Racing Club provided around $10 million in prize money over the four days of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

2012 Tatts Cox Plate

Mooney Valley Racecourse - 27 October 2012

The W.S. Cox Plate - considered to be the 'Weight For Age' championship of Australasia - celebrates an important milestone in 2012 with the great race being run for the 90th time. With past winners including the likes of Sunline, Octagonal, WA favourite Northerly, as well as Melbourne Cup winners Saintly, Might & Power, Kingston Town and the great Makybe Diva - the Cox Plate field boasts some of the undisputed champions of the sport!!
